Certification

Certification means that a film will be suitable for a certain age that is approved by the BritishBoard of Film.

U means universal, it also means that the films are suitable for anyone over the age of 4. Some examples of films that are suitable for all ages are; Toy Story, Bee movie and many more.

PG stands for Parental Guidance, it means that a parent should watch the film first and decide whether or not their child should watch the film. PG films are generally suitable for most viewers but some scenes may be unsuitable for younger children.

The main difference between the two is that 12 films are videos, blu-ray and DVD's where as 12A films are for the cinema, people younger that 12 must be accompanied by an adult when watching the film.

No one younger than 15 may see a '15' film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a '15' rated video.

18 means that no-one under the age of 18 can watch the film in cinema, buy or rent a 18 film and that any 18 film is definitely not suitable for children.
