Basic lighting

  • Key Lighting is the brightest and most effective.
  • The Back Light helps to cancel out the effect of the key light and creates a silhouette.
  • Under Lighting is is when the main source of light is coming from underneath the character.
  • Back lighting is when the light source comes from behind the character.
  • Low key lighting is when only the back light and key light is used.
  • High key lighting is when the image appears bright and well lit up
  • Filler Light is the type of light that helps to soften the shadows  that both key and back light have created.
  • Top Lighting is when the main source of light is shining from above the character making facial features more obvious.
