The  film contains a car drive,  you are able to see guns and blood this starts the enigma you start to ask questions why? What for? How? The film uses the element of shock and this builds tension. The camera uses different shots to add to the tension, close ups show emotion on the characters faces, a close up of an object makes you think intensively about the object and its relevance. Tracking shots allow you to follow the character and keeps you more interested and involved. The music and sound are non diegetic the use of contrapuntal music makes you think that it is more messed up than you first thought. The mise en scene of the film seems dark and gloomy the car is isolated and away from civilisation this adds to the suspense, the event it a contrast to the celebration of the day, the 4th of July is a day of celebration and happiness for most Americans but the event that occurs is devastating and dramatic.
